It’s a strange sensation A new place that seems familiar or an event that you’re sure has happened before How many of us have had this experience? Apparently over 70% It’s called déjà vu and according to the experts it’s not something new but has been happening to people for hundreds of years! So, what explanations are there for this strange feeling that is both confusing and uncomfortable? Some scientists think it is related to dreams and memory It appears that although the majority of us cannot recall our dreams, we actually store the memory of dreams in our long term memory This deep memory can come back sometimes when we are in a similar situation and makes us think that we have done this before However, as usual, not all experts agree Those who believe in reincarnation – the idea that we have all lived before – say that these feelings are fragments of memories from previous lives But, whatever the reason for déjà vu, one thing it does show is how complicated and amazing our brains are and that we are a long way from understanding completely how the brain, and in particular, how our memories work Are the sentences true or false? Déjà vu is the feeling that something familiar is unfamiliar _ People have been experiencing déjà vu for the last hundred years _ Some people think that déjà vu is related to dreams we can’t remember _ Some people think that this is not our first or only life _ Soon we shall understand how our brains work _ Phần trả lời: False False True True False Câu 3: Writing (4 marks) Imagine you have seen an advertisement for your dream job Write a formal letter applying for the job Include the following information: • the job you are applying for and where you saw the advert • why you are right for the job • your qualifications and/or relevant experience • your personal qualities • your availability for an interview Phần trả lời: Dear Sir/Madam, I am applying for the available marketing assistant role advertised at www.jobs.ie As well as having experience in the marketing field, I graduated from University of Economics Ho Chi Minh with a BA in Marketing I am now looking to use the knowledge gained so far in my career to further help clients achieve their sales targets and the opening at Acme Business presents me with the ideal opportunity to achieve this goal I believe I meet all the criteria needed for the role In the course of my studies, I learned a great deal about the financial side of running a business including details on setting a budget I worked as part of a group for a number of projects and feel comfortable as part of a team due to my interpersonal and communication skills At Johnson Marketing, I worked for a variety of major international firms and helped them learn crucial details about customer behavior As a result, we were able to streamline the marketing campaigns of these clients to reduce costs while increasing ROI I worked with five different clients during my tenure at Johnson Marketing and all five enjoyed a sales increase of at least 10% In addition to this extensive marketing campaign experience, I also have strong administrative, communication, problem solving and time management skills This broad background makes me an ideal candidate for this position and I believe I will bring flexibility, efficiency, reliability and innovation to your company Please read the accompanying CV which will provide you with further details of my skill set and academic qualifications I appreciate you taking the time to read my application and I look forward to hearing from you Yours faithfully, Write a narrative called ‘My earliest memory’ Include the following information: •set the scene •describe the main events •what happened afterwards •how you feel about it now My earliest memory is not very happy Indeed, it goes back to my childhood, at the age of five years if I remember correctly It happened at noon, when we were at the table, my parents, my brother and I As in the present, because, yes, I have not changed, I was impatient to eat My mother had taken my meal, which she had placed in front of my high chair Except that, of course, “Sir Impatient”, that is to say, myself, did not wait for my mum to give me my food, so I wanted to take it by myself I feel from my high chair headfirst and all my teeth went into my jaw So that led me to the emergency room and thankfully the doctors fixed that Today, I can tell this without any pain because I just have the story in mind and no longer the pain So can say that everything is well that ends well, even if the pain was long for many years because I had many dental devices, many appointments with the orthodontist and I even had an operation, probably because of this accident But now everything is over, I have no problem because of that, so I’m very happy I still remember many childhood memories and some of them had a profound impact on my life Sometimes those memories appear so lucid that it seems only a few days ago! Anyway, a childhood memory that I can still remember so vividly is when I observed a few dead people for the first time in my life I would like to take the opportunity to talk about it I was then seven or eight years old and was in grade three in my school One day I heard that a devastating accident had occurred near our house My mother asked me whether I wanted to go or not! I agreed to go as I thought it would be an exciting experience – only if I knew! I went with my mother and a few neighbors and speculated lots of things about the accident but when I watched 10 dead people lying on a nearby playground and among them two were kids, I was confounded about the whole event I started feeling sick and very devasted This was, in fact, too much for me to digest I had no idea how devastating the accidents could be The dead people, especially the dead bodies of two kids, stroke me really hard I noticed many people were shocked by the outcome of the event and many of them were discussing how this terrible accident might have happened I and my mother returned home and I was unwell for about a week I asked my mum and dad several realistic and nonsensical questions after I recovered from the initial shock Some of their replies were quite hard for me to understand and yet something inside me had changed and that change was permanent Sometimes I wonder if the changes were for bad, but now I realize it was for good This memory is important to me because it helped me to think about life in a different way Some even thought my mother shouldn’t have taken me there but due to this event, I could realize at an early age what the dead is and how fragile our lives are This memory helped me to grow faster and opened my eyes to this flamboyant yet transient world BÀI KT KỸ NĂNG TỔNG HỢP B2 Câu 1: Complete the sentences with the present simple or present continuous form of the verbs in brackets Use the other words in brackets as well (3 marks) I _ (not / usually / go) to town on Saturday mornings because it’s too crowded A woman in a black car _ (follow) us Do you know her?
